On the last Monday of June, I tried to purchase a next-day ticket for Lagos-Port Harcourt flight ahead of the End-Time Summit. I was astonished that one airline pegged its one-way economy ticket at N105,000.00! At the time also, some airlines charged as much as N120,000.00 for a flight of one-hour duration. I reminisced on the time when I had taken a flight in this country for as little as N8,000.00 or less. The current tide points to how our economy has been nose-diving over the years. This calls for concern and can easily cause people to panic. At the same time, it creates an opportunity for God’s children to look up to Him in faith.
The Psalmist asked in Psalm 121:1, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help?” He supplied the answer right in the next two verses – “My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber” (Psalms 121:2–3 NKJV). In times like this, believers must learn to look up to the Heavens for provision. Interestingly, the economy of heaven does not vacillate like the one on earth. We must come to the full assurance that God’s promise to carry us covers even days of scarcity. We must deepen our faith in God as that will protect us against the economic woes in the world. In our text, Paul commended the Thessalonians because of their faith that “grows exceedingly”. It has to be said that in these days of rising costs, we cannot afford to have a dwindling faith.
