Attitude can make or mar. It is often said that it is not aptitude but attitude that determines how high one rises in life. If you eliminate ruinous attitude, you will be very successful. Today and in the next several days, we will focus on ruinous attitudes with a view to eliminating them. The first on the list is rudeness. This is being impolite and disrespectful to others.
Rude people neither consider the feelings of others nor respect boundaries.
As I write this, I remember an incident in the early 90s. We went to Ilorin for a crusade. The venue was the State Stadium. The authorities in charge of the stadium graciously volunteered the platform for boxing matches, but that required some technicalities to set up. The junior staff had the responsibility to set it up. Around midday, they were still foot-dragging. Perhaps they were looking for some incentives from us. One of our team members, a PhD holder, spoke to them roughly and threatened to report them to their boss. That was all they needed to withdraw completely. They did not get back to work until our team ate the humble pie and pleaded with them. People have self-worth; the moment you hit the base of their human esteem you will find out that you have erected roadblocks to your own path. Be courteous to people – young and old, poor and rich. Everyone has worth before God. In the words of scripture, do not call common what God has sanctified. Respect people and you find peace and support in your endeavours.
