Defense architecture of Bible times included walls and towers. They both speak of fortification. Making reference to the name of the Lord as a strong tower is to jolt our consciousness to the fact that our defence is sure. Now, If the name of the Lord is a “strong tower” for the righteous, it behoves on us to know how we can run into it. There are two considerations put forward here. First of all, realize that God and His name are the same. His name describes His ability, His personality, as well as His faithfulness. Calling on the name of the Lord is one form of running into this tower of safety.
Secondly, at the end of Solomon’s lengthy prayer at the dedication of the Temple, coupled with enormous sacrifices, God responded from Heaven: “And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before Me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put My name there for ever; and Mine eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.” 1 Kings 9:3. To the extent that God’s name was put in the Temple, going into it is one way of running into the name of the Lord for salvation. This explains why nothing should stop you from going to the place of worship. The aftermath of the Covid-19 lockdown is the refusal of many people to return to in-person worship. The messages you hear through the media can never be a substitute for the place of worship. You must belong to an assembly, attend meetings regularly and make your presence felt.
