In our previous meditation, we learned that Cristiana Ronaldo snubbed Coca-Cola products. That little gesture had profound consequences – the company’s share price dropped by 1.6%. That translated to $4bn loss! When there was global economic meltdown in 2007/08, the share price of many companies fell abysmally and many investors had harrowing experiences from which some are yet to fully recover. These examples bring something to the fore. The fortune of this world is highly volatile. It is up today and down tomorrow. An event that ought to be isolated in one corner can have sweeping effect globally.
Treasures stored up in heaven are not only secured, but they also help in re-directing our focus. A man’s heart will certainly be focused where he has his investment. Investing in heaven frees us from distractions of this world.
This makes Jesus’ words all the more important. Laying up treasures on earth is susceptible to many dangers. They may be destroyed by moth or preyed on by thieves. Alternatively, their values could drop as with Coca-Cola. On the other hand, treasures laid up in heaven are beyond the reach of destructive forces that are common to earth. This is where our treasures should be. Treasures stored up in heaven are not only secured, but they also help in re-directing our focus. A man’s heart will certainly be focused where he has his investment. Investing in heaven frees us from distractions of this world.
