Just beneath the name of a school in Mchinji district, Malawi, is this inscription – “Enter To Learn Depart To Serve”. I think that is the motto of the school. Right from the gate, the authorities made their goal clear. They want to raise men and women who are well-equipped to serve. This is a noble cause for Africa where we often complain of a lack of service-oriented leadership. All the woes of the continent are traceable to the wrong men and women in power. Be that as it may, I think every Church can adopt that motto. I guess a banner bearing the exact words should be hanging over the entrance of every Church. People should enter Church meetings to learn, and when they depart they should serve.
“People should enter Church meetings to learn, and when they depart they should serve.”
Cast your mind back to when Jesus recruited His disciples. “And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach” (Mark 3:13–14 NKJV). To be with Jesus was to learn while sending them was to serve. Let us equate being with Him to going to Church. The Church is called the ground and pillar of truth. All believers should go there to worship God and getting trained. Stepping out of the meeting place should find us serving in line with the gospel dictates.
