I watched in horror as a young girl literally ripped her parents’ car apart with heavy objects. Her anger was because they took her mobile phone away from her to keep her from the distractions of social media. She went into serious rage and was ready to destroy anything in sight. Incidentally, their clime is such that you are not allowed to serve corporal punishment on erring children. Back home here in Nigeria, some parents hired thugs to beat up a teacher in school. The teacher’s crime was that he had disciplined the student.
How you bring up your children or people under you will reflect on them and the society tomorrow…Children left to have their ways will one day self-destruct. Great futures are created through discipline.
Stories like this are becoming rather too common, and it is one of the reasons why the quality of education has dropped. Worse still, it is the reason why many youths have become useless to themselves and a threat to the peace of society. My second son called me one day as he was returning from out-of-station duty. He had gone in the company of his immediate boss to do some work. He worked hard until his boss could not hide his feelings. He told him that he thought he would be a spoilt brat judging from his parental background, that he never expected him to be serious at work. “We were not brought up that way”, was my son’s reply. How you bring up your children or people under you will reflect on them and the society tomorrow. We cannot be wiser than God; if He recommends correction, then it is good for everybody. Children left to have their ways will one day self-destruct. Great futures are created through discipline.
