I love the music ministry of David Ingles, because they are all versed in scriptures. One that rings bell now is titled WRITE YOUR OWN TICKET WITH GOD. Here is the first stanza:
One day the Word came walking down the road
On His way to Jairus’ house
And a certain woman with an issue of blood
Heard that He was healing doing good
She said with her mouth, if I can touch His clothes
I know I will I know I shall be whole
She crowded thru the crowd ever so bold
She touched Him and she was made whole
Several people had to re-write their story under God. Jephthah did. What would later become an eventful life and recorded in the book of faith heroes began ordinarily. Perhaps dishonourable would be a better description. Jephthah was born of a harlot! The other sons of Gilead, his father, by his legal wife ganged up against him. The result is well captured in our key Scripture; he fled to the land of Tob where charlatans gathered themselves to him. That was the place they horned their battle skill. Soon enough the elders of Gilead approached him to come and deliver them from the people of Ammon. ‘Then they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the people of Ammon”’ (Judges 11:6). How come the elders approached him without ever referring to his past? The simple explanation is that they must have heard of his exploits in exile. The point we are making today is this, when Jephthah was rejected he did not resign to defeat. He worked on himself until he became a man sought after. If you suffer rejection, do as Jephthah did; work on yourself. The world will beat the path to your doorstep.
