Nothing attests to the importance of instruction more than its frequent mention in the Bible. In the book of Proverbs alone, the word occurred 25 times. Instruction is connected to many things. It is what births knowledge and wisdom. Proverbs 6:23 describes it as the way of life. So crucial is the subject that the wise writer says those who hate instruction do so to their own detriment. Instruction is often a precursor to restoration. After David lost his base, he received the instruction to pursue the attackers which led to the recovery of all. The raising of Lazarus back to life was on the heel of the instruction which Jesus gave that they should roll away the stone. In our text, another instruction came the way of the man who was born blind. He was to go to the pool of Siloam and wash. Following that instruction gave him the evidence of which he testified, “Once I was blind, but now I see”.
“Should you find certain instructions of God to you needing some extra hand to follow through, do not hesitate to seek one in the assembly of God’s people.”
In our previous meditation, we did mention that Jesus did not follow conventional methods to carry out many of His acts. We illustrated with the story of this same man who was born blind. He made clay of spittle to put on the blind eyes. That was ridiculous. More ridiculous is the fact that Jesus instructed him to go to Siloam and wash. How would a blind man get to Siloam? The Bible did not state this expressly, but it makes sense to say that some individuals must have led him to the pool. This underscores the place of support system which we may all need at some point in our lives. It was James Walker who sang the song, “I NEED YOU TO SURVIVE”. Should you find certain instructions of God to you needing some extra hand to follow through, do not hesitate to seek one in the assembly of God’s people.
