Do you remember what answers kids give when asked what they would like to be? Typically, answers cover a wide range of prestigious, money-spinning careers. That’s a tell-tale sign for something. Inside every one of us is the desire to do some important things. We have dreams and desires. There are also innate talents and abilities, which are often enhanced by education or some other form of skill acquisition. The desire to do something big or important is a pointer to the big eternal God that resides in us. But too often people experience difficulty in birthing their dreams to reality.
When a gulf exists between dream and reality, a feeling of failure and emptiness is felt.
The existing gulf between dreams and realities is not always because people don’t back up their dreams with drives. Sometimes, it is because they are confronted with the opposition that sabotaged their every move. Therefore, something must take place if a dream must translate to reality: opposition must be levelled out for good. Think for a moment how Israel got to inherit the Promised Land. “And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He divided their land to them by lot.” Acts 13:19. Except those opposing nations were taken out of the way, Israel would not have entered the land, even though God covenanted it to them. This is so with everyone aspiring towards lofty heights. The presence of adversaries does not mean we cannot go forward and attain; it only means there is a battle to fight. But we must not be conceited to think that this battle can be fought by our might. It is God who will “flatten the opposition for good.” Psalm 60:12 (MSG).
