Elaine Thompson-Herah came third in the 100 meters at the World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Listen to her reaction to that win: “We gave it our best shot. It was tough this time around. My setbacks early this season fighting to train and compete was really hard. I am not where I want to be but grateful to get my first 100m world championship medal (bronze). Thanks to my husband/coach for struggling with me this season, my therapist (Earl) my management, sponsors and fans for all the support and love, well done ladies”. A clear lesson from Thompson-Herah’s message is that in life nobody wins alone. Take another look at the credit list. You will find the name of her husband who doubles as her coach; the therapist who ensures her physical fitness; the management, her sponsors, and fans were duly acknowledged. If you are going to succeed in life, you have to do it with people. There is nothing like a self-made man.
“It is important for those who want to enjoy sustained success to share credit with those who make it possible for them to perform at top level.”
Whenever someone mounts the podium to receive a medal, be assured that it was not a solo effort. The public ovation may be for one, but an army of people made the feat possible. Ability to work with people is a major tool for ultimate success in life. In Romans 16, we have a long list of people who were like the ministry behind the ministry for Paul. They were largely responsible for the huge success of Paul’s ministry. Our text singled out a couple whom Paul described as his helpers, and he sent them special greetings. It is important for those who want to enjoy sustained success to share credit with those who make it possible for them to perform at top level. Generous praise for your helpers will inspire them to do more; and that in turn, will make you perform even better.
