On the last day of August this year, we had a major disruption to our electrical installations in our makshift accommodation. Sockets were burnt, and the pumping machine also took a hit. As a result, my wife and I had to spend the night in a hotel. The next morning, I stepped down to the dining area for the complimentary breakfast and that was where the inspiration for this entry came. The plate used to serve the bread and omelette had a little crack at the edge. I shrugged that off and asked for cutleries because the waiter came with none. I must have waited for about 15 minutes or more before the lady resurfaced. Meanwhile, the staff that was to serve tea plugged some water but soon disappeared for more than 10 minutes. I saw everybody appearing busy but making no progress. When the lady finally brought the cutleries, I teased her by welcoming her back from the market. I proceeded to give her a little tutorial that businesses are made or ruined by little, little things. This applies to every facet of life.
Little things indeed matter. Take care of the little things, and the big things will fall into place. Neglect the little things, and the big things will fall apart. If little things do not matter, the wise man would not have advised us to learn from the ants. Because little things matter, the word of the Lord says, “Take us the foxes, The little foxes, That spoil the vines: For our vines have tender grapes.” (Song of Solomon 2:15 KJV). In our text, God charged Jeremiah that he should not set his heart on great things. I believe it was because of the exigencies of his time. Besides, I believe such instruction was because taking care of little things would amount to big. It is deception to think that we will do things better when we become big. Big begins with small!
