A lot of people only consider financial or material increase as a proof of God’s blessing. However, there are heavier blessings than all the material world put together. To get a good grasp of this, recall that Jesus once said that there is no real profit in gaining the whole world only to lose one’s soul. So, material blessings are not top on the list. In Psalm 103 David made a list of all the benefits of God to him. First on the list was forgiveness of sins. This is understandable because forgiveness is like the key that opens the door to the throne room of God. Sin shut the door of Eden against Adam and Eve. All that pertained to the good life was in that garden until sin entered. Their sin cut them off from the good life. The story has not changed till now; sin cuts one off from the blessing of God, and until it is dealt with, every religious activity to impress God is futile.

There are two ways to address the issue of sin. The first and the best approach is to avoid it altogether. This is God’s perfect counsel; and this is what every genuine born-again believer should make their chief goal. Living above sin pleases the Father and also glorifies Him. However, when sin occurs, it must be confessed in order to obtain forgiveness. The Blood of Jesus is available to cleanse all sin-stained conscience. Any attempt to cover our sins will only delay our blessing.
