The subject of suffering has long been a subject of contention in moral philosophy and other literatures. It is no less puzzling among believers. We are often too quick to ask: why is there so much suffering in the world? Why do bad things happen to good people? If God is love, why does He turn away His eyes from human predicaments? These and many more are the questions that thug at the mind. While we may not find comprehensive answers to them, we can at least console ourselves with some scriptural clues. The first thing to establish is that suffering was never a part of God’s plan for man. Disobedience to God’s law is the root of man’s woes.
Disobedience to God’s law is the root of man’s woes. Sin brought suffering…When Jesus suffered in the flesh, He brought an end to the rule of sin.
Sin brought suffering. Ironically it was also through suffering that a cure was found for both sin and suffering. When Jesus suffered in the flesh, He brought an end to the rule of sin. When believers also choose to die to self, a measure of pain is involved; but that is the way to cease from sin. There is no path to a holy life that is devoid of suffering. It is important therefore to see beyond the suffering we face in life to the desirable fruit of a life that pleases God at the end of our ordeal. The Bible makes it clear that suffering abounds in life. The caution we are given is not to be found suffering as consequences for wrongdoing. If suffering comes from living a life of righteousness, we can be hundred percent sure that God will turn it around for our good and a blessing to others.
