Napoleon Bonaparte is credited with this famous quote: “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him.” The French general admitted the superiority of Jesus’ profile and method. Without wielding any sword, businessmen and government workers, royalties and peasants all abandoned everything and followed Him. He achieved that through love.
The world cannot be won by rhetoric…What will captivate the people of the world is love and oneness, the type that is alien to their community.
Jesus was not wrong when He commanded His disciples to love one another, describing it as a new commandment. In addition, He said, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 NKJV. The world cannot be won by rhetoric. Miracles may be nothing more than side attractions. What will captivate the people of the world is love and oneness, the type that is alien to their community. This subject was of paramount importance to Jesus that it became a central focus of His intercession. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” John 17:20-21 NKJV. If Jesus commanded it and went on to pray about it, believers must strive for the bond of unity in all that we do.
