Hebrews 11 can be described as a treatise on faith. It introduces us to those who received their felt needs by faith. It goes on to tell us how a man like Moses refused heirdom through faith as well. The past couple of meditations taught us how to exercise faith by speaking and acting. What we need to add today is that faith is not designed to meet our every whim. To engage faith for earthly benefits alone will be speaking of incomplete faith. Faith captures the total spectrum of our walk with God. If you like, faith is life! In the early church before believers were formally called Christians they were described as people belonging to the way (Acts 9:2).
A study of the early Christians reveals that they did not have one lifestyle for church and another for their interaction on weekdays. No aspect of their life was separated from their walk with God. Their faith defined how they transacted business and handled finances. Their faith governed how they related with people and authorities. If we understand that faith is life, we will be willing to do anything and go anywhere for the sake of our faith in God. We must come to a point where Christianity will not be seen simply as a means of making a living or obtaining all our fancies. We have to see it as the center of our life.
