In most of my talks to single ladies, I recommend that they look for partners who share Joseph’s traits. When push comes to shove, every lady needs a man who would not throw their dignity into the mud. Even when Joseph thought that Mary had been unfaithful, he was not going to make her a public example. Letting the authorities know that she got pregnant outside of wedlock and by an unknown person would have subjected her to death by stoning. He not only protected her dignity but also her life. There is no disappointment for those who trust and obey God. That is an ideal man to marry.
“There is no disappointment for those who trust and obey God.”
Beyond providing an ideal man for marriage, Joseph provides an ideal portrait of walking with God. He demonstrated two traits for walking with God – trust and faithfulness. Trust and faithfulness are like two sides of the same coin, and both are essential. Trust is what gives you an unmistakable assurance that God is good and has your best interest at heart. You know beyond any shadow of a doubt that He will work every situation of your life into a beautiful tapestry for the world to see. On the other hand, faithfulness has to do with obeying whatever He tells you to do, even when you do not have the details. Those who imbibe the virtue of faithfulness deliver the right results without excuses. Joseph trusted God’s word through the angel that the baby that Mary was carrying was of the Holy Spirit. He discounted what family and friends would say and believed in God. Then when he was instructed to relocate to Egypt with Mary and the child, he obeyed. Even if you do not have a full grasp of what God is doing in your life, keep on trusting and obeying. There is no disappointment for those who trust and obey God.
