God’s word is laced with instructions and examples to help us through difficult seasons of life. We were never promised a fairytale pilgrimage, but the assurance that God will never leave nor forsake us. We also know that with good understanding, one may cut short the duration of tough times. The Psalmist offers considerable counsel on what you can do in your days of trouble. After asking a series of puzzling questions triggered by grave concerns, he concluded: “I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember Thy wonders of old.” (Psalm 77:11). During tough times, he reached out for the record books and went through what God already accomplished in the past.

Recalling what God did before will build a heart of gratitude rather than a heart of grumbling. Following this step will rekindle faith in the ability of God. In reality, this was how David won several victories. When he was confronted with that intimidating giant, Goliath, he simply recalled how God delivered him from the jaws of the lions and the bears. That helped his faith, and the battle was won. Your memory will fail over time; so it is important you maintain your own Book of Records which you read periodically. Had the disciples remembered how Jesus fed 5,000 men on one occasion and 4,000 men on another, they would not have worried over bread when He told them to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.
