My son reminded me of what I promised myself some time ago. He had heard me say
that I would visit my country home at least once a month. Then it happened that for the
whole of 2022, I could not visit once. There is a level of uncertainty that goes with
human plans. This brings to mind the event of 2020 when Covid-19 was ravaging the
whole planet. Perhaps only a few individuals across the globe could boast that all their
plans and projections for that year came through as they wanted them. For the most
part, 2020 would readily be described as a great disruptor. Plans were drastically
altered, postponed or cancelled outright. The year brought to light, among other things,
the limits of human knowledge and plans.
“Put everything in the hands of God.”
From our text, there are two extremes to avoid. The first is planning without God. We
already said earlier that we do not have all things under control; so we need divine
input. The second extreme is not planning at all. Some would say that since there are
so many uncertainties, why plan when you are not sure about executing them? The
uncertainties of life should not stop us from making plans. Remember that to fail to plan
is to plan to fail. Planning is an integral part of a winning life. By all means plan, but
never rely on your understanding alone. Put everything in the hands of God.
