Mark’s gospel gives us an insight into one of Jesus’ routines – “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35 NKJV). Mark’s record did not contain the specifics of His prayer on that occasion. However, gleaning from other passages of scriptures, we can make sense of the business-like focus that Jesus gave to prayers. Apparently, the text for our meditation today is a messianic scripture. With a prophetic viewfinder, Isaiah saw the daily routines of the Lord where His ear was awakened every morning. It is evident that part of the things that took place in Jesus’ hour of prayer was the receiving of heaven’s updates. It was at such hours that He connected with the heart of the Father and got the bearing for each day. No wonder He testified that He did nothing of His own, but only followed what the Father wanted.
In our past meditation, we stressed the importance of receiving updates. This is the only way we will not be stuck to where God has left. What we need to add is that we don’t have a better way of receiving updates than the example Jesus left for us. Those who want to be on the same page with heaven must make devotion a priority. Meditation in scripture and prayer must be our standard routine. When we meditate, the Spirit of the Lord quickens our own spirits and brings us into alignment with the agenda of God for the season.
