The word of God comes with several benefits. Firstly, it is both the source and booster of faith. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 NKJV. Secondly, it is the means to wisdom and understanding. The Psalmist claimed that he had understanding more than his teachers because of his attachment to the word of God. Paul testified of Timothy, saying that he had known the scriptures which can make one wise unto salvation. He also mentioned other uses of scriptures when he wrote, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV. The word of God equips us for all necessary work.
Those who give themselves to reading and meditation in the word will find their spirits sensitive and able to flow with God’s agenda for every moment.
In our text, we find another use of God’s word. It is a timekeeper or time prompter. Daniel knew the time for the end of their captivity through reading the Scriptures. God’s Spirit inspiring a passage of Scripture may be all you need to understand the time. Never forget that the word and the Spirit work together. First of all, the words in the Scriptures were gathered by the Spirit. So when we read any part of Scripture, the Spirit behind it is activated. Those who give themselves to reading and meditation in the word will find their spirits sensitive and able to flow with God’s agenda for every moment.
