In our previous meditation, we learned that many things in life are like dormant volcanoes. Things are already set to go off when the enabling factors fall in place. One area to focus on today is the works of the flesh which are capable of activating the influence of the occult over our lives. Mostly when the Bible speaks of the flesh, it does not refer to the skin that covers our carcasses, but to the fallen nature of man and its strange appetites. According to scripture, we are to ensure that no allowance is made for this fallen nature to lord it over us. Letting the fallen nature have control will not only bring us under the influence of the occult but can totally jeopardize our soul. We must learn to keep a distance from the flesh.
Letting the fallen nature have control will not only bring us under the influence of the occult but can totally jeopardize our soul…Walking in the Spirit is walking in safety.
Galatians 5:19-21 covers what Paul listed as the works of the flesh. In the list, a mention was made of witchcraft or sorcery which will readily fall under the orbit of the occult. It is grouped together with adultery, fornication, hatred, anger, jealousies, and so on. Now, one may claim that he is not into sorcery, but the moment he is found in any of these other things listed, he comes within the range of the occult. Think of this in the light of anger. “If you cannot control your anger, you are as helpless as a city without walls, open to attack.” (Proverbs 25:28, GNB). Those who throw up tantrums at the slightest issue are not far from attack from the camp of the enemy. In the light of this, Paul warns us in our passage not to make any allowance for the flesh but to wear the new nature of Christ, which in essence is walking in the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit is walking in safety.
