The Bible gives us an account of several significant women. Not the least was a woman
simply known as the Shunammite who was described as a great woman. In other
words, she was substantially rich. One of the many good things about this woman was
her warmth. Though she was wealthy, she was not mean towards life and people.
Proverbs 23:18 says the poor use a lot of entreaties, but the rich answer roughly. The
Shunammite was an exception to this saying. It can be said that her riches did not get
into her head; she was a receptive individual. Her life tells us that no matter how high
we rise, people who cross our paths should be treated with respect and dignity.
“The services you render when you are hurting or in need are more valuable before God than when things are perfect.”
There is something else about this woman’s sense of hospitality. When she started
ministering to the prophet and his attendant, there was a need in her life. She set aside
her need, as it were, to meet the needs of other people. In international relations,
heavily indebted nations still send aid to other nations in crisis. If you have challenges,
so do others. Do not wait for everything around you to be perfect before you reach out
to others in love. The services you render when you are hurting or in need are more
valuable before God than when things are perfect.
