Apostle Paul listed in this one verse certain things that should be out of bounds to believers. First on the list is fornication. It is safe to conclude that the next on the list, uncleanness, stands for other forms of sexual perversion that may not strictly fall under fornication. None of the things we are asked to refrain from is without reason. Only yesterday we found a reason why all inordinate sexual desires must be mortified. Lack of restraint in this led to the fall of Andrew Cuomo from an exalted office. From Bible times, immorality has always cut people short – either of glory or even their lives.
From Bible times, immorality has always cut people short – either of glory or even their lives…Dire consequences will follow those who desecrate their bodies with immorality.
Turning to another segment of the Bible, we find other reason why fornication should be alien to our culture. Take a look at 1 Corinthians 3:16 – “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” Our bodies are likened to God’s sacred temple. To say the least, God is jealous over His temple. Once, Jesus was enraged when they turned the temple to a house of merchandise and den of robbers. He made a whip and flushed out those guilty of that sacrilege. Well, that was just for physical building. If so much care was taken to protect the physical building, how much more care will be exercised over spiritual temples that all believers are? Dire consequences will follow those who desecrate their bodies with immorality. ‘’If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV)
