In our previous entry, we learned that there is a sure reward for every good thing we do. What is to be added is the fact that God’s reward comes in two forms – temporal and eternal. Our text was the closing word of the Lord to Daniel through the angel that had brought him several revelations. This also happened to be at the end of Daniel’s life. He was to rest (as in death) for a season; and at resurrection he would arise to his inheritance. The inheritance would represent Daniel’s eternal reward from God for all his faithful service, even at the risk of his life.
“We all are destined for individual inheritance by and by…How we fare with our assignments here on earth will directly impact on our lot on the other side.”
It is comforting to know that what was said to Daniel is also true of every believer. We all are destined for individual inheritance by and by. This is what inspired Paul when he penned down this famous verse: “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8). There are positions God would want us to occupy here on earth. Similarly, there are assignments that are to be carried out here and now. How we fare with our assignments here on earth will directly impact on our lot on the other side. At the resurrection, people will be judged according to what is written in the book; and there is no partiality.
