The lesson for today is that it is impossible to hurry to exploits and significance. Also, no great thing can be achieved without taking some risks. However, when God is in it, it is a safe risk.
Dissecting what the merchant said, all preaching should aim at three things. Firstly, they should show how majestic God is.

There are things that prayer will not fix; accurate knowledge is what we need. Our text reveals the woes of God’s people because of a lack of knowledge.
Working hard on a wrong task is a waste of time and energy. So divine guidance plays a vital role in man’s quest for success.
One of such consequences is fear. The moment Adam disobeyed God, fear set in. “Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:9-10 NKJV

Their mission is to preach the gospel to all creation. This is what is commonly referred to as the Great Commission. Embedded in this commission is doing the greatest good to the greatest number of people.
