The Bible passage before us will immediately evoke some aspects of John’s apocalyptic writings. Compare what the text is saying with what we have in Revelation 7:16-17 – “They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” So our text carries with it a tinge of prophecy. However, like most other scriptures with dual applications both for now and future, there is a value to derive from our text presently. It shows how we can be shielded from the elements and have our needs met.
“No doubt, God places premium on hard work. It is by it we reign and enjoy plenty. Hard work in a wrong location will yield nothing but frustration.”
No doubt, God places premium on hard work. It is by it we reign and enjoy plenty. However, as important as this virtue is, something seems to come before it; that is, guidance. While the sojourn in the wilderness lasted, Israel enjoyed free-flowing blessing. The secret to that ceaseless flow is adequately captured here: “And they did not thirst When He led them through the deserts; He caused the waters to flow from the rock for them; He also split the rock, and the waters gushed out” (Isaiah 48:21). Without mincing words, God’s guidance is the secret to enjoying abundance in an austere world. God’s provision is waiting for you in the place that He wants you to be at each given time. Hard work in a wrong location will yield nothing but frustration. In recent meditation we stated that God’s help comes through the things that we are taught by Him. We can readily add here that divine help also comes by means of guidance that He gives us.
