The ministry of Moses was laced with prayer, as he took every matter to the Lord. When the people desired meat, he took it to the Lord. When God wanted to destroy the people and offered to make a new nation by Moses, he stood in prayer. From him we learn that it will be presumptuous to attempt the Lord’s work only with human strength. Beyond the Lord’s work, anything we set as task must be channeled to the Lord through prayer. Only then can we have the assurance of God leading us through.
In these two cases we can assume it was the fire of approval from the Lord that Solomon and Elijah enjoyed. If you are feeling down and low in your spirit and in need of some fire, take to prayer.
In our meditation yesterday, we learned that the murmuring of the people attracted judgment by fire which destroyed some of them. In their desperation they cried to Moses. In turn, Moses prayed to the Lord; and that was the magic that brought the destructive fire to an end. The power of prayer is brought to the fore here; and it is amazing to see how prayer works. Whereas prayer quenched fire in this place, in other instances prayer brought down the fire of the Lord. Remember that it was after Solomon prayed that fire came down. “Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.” (2Chronicles 7:1). Again, after Elijah prayed, fire came down to consume the sacrifice that he had made. In these two cases we can assume it was the fire of approval from the Lord that Solomon and Elijah enjoyed. If you are feeling down and low in your spirit and in need of some fire, take to prayer.
