Have you ever wondered where children who died as infants go? I have no reservations
that they go straight to heaven since they died at a stage of innocence. The innocence
of children can be a re-play of man’s state before he sinned. Another thing that children
have going for them is their trust, which is authentic faith. Staying around children will
teach you authenticity and effective faith. Of course, there is endless fun around them. I
remember what happened on May 1 of a particular year. Globally, May 1 is regarded as
Workers’ day; and most nations make that a public holiday. May 1 that year fell on a
Saturday, so the Government shifted the holiday to the following Monday, May 3. On
that day I had the last two of my children and their mother in the car. The younger of
them queried his sister, “Hey! Today is Workers’ Day; what work have you done?” In his
understanding, workers’ day is a day for workers to work! It was all laughter in the car.
“To function effectively in the Kingdom of God, we need to strike a balance between when to act as children and when to act as mature people.”
When Jesus was teaching certain realities of the Kingdom of God, He had no better way
of illustrating than children. There are times when we are expected to act like children,
even as our passage dictates. However, in understanding and interpreting issues we
are to be men. This is why Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:20 said, “Brethren, be not children in
understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.” To
function effectively in the Kingdom of God, we need to strike a balance between when
to act as children and when to act as mature people.
