People define grace in various ways. Some make acrostic with it and define it as God’s Riches At Christ’ Expense. Others see it as unmerited favour. In THRU THE BIBLE COMMENTARY, Dr Vernon J. McGee says “it is love in action”. Whichever definition we pick; we have to conclude that God’s grace is inexhaustible. John notes this in his gospel when he said, “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.” (John 1:16 NKJV). James also subscribes to the depth of God’s grace when he declared that God “gives more grace”. He gives more grace because He has more in the storehouse.
“The grace of God is reserved for the humble at heart…Humility can be described as the ladder of grace. Those who stay humble will enjoy upward climb in all their ways.”
Access to a greater dimension of grace is by asking. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”(Hebrews 4:16 NKJV). No need can outstrip God’s grace. The good news is that God is ever too eager to unleash this grace. Nothing is a better demonstration of this than the invitation, “come boldly to the throne of grace”. The only exclusion is a proud heart. All through the scriptures, God took a stern stand against pride. In Proverbs 6:16-19, seven things are listed as detestable to God. The first on the list is a proud look. It was not a random listing; pride tops the list to show how horrible it is. Perhaps emphasis is laid on pride because it accounted for the downfall of Lucifer. Other world leaders in the Bible were similarly stripped of honour and dignity because they became proud. The grace of God is reserved for the humble at heart. Any shade of pride will attract divine resistance. Humility can be described as the ladder of grace. Those who stay humble will enjoy upward climb in all their ways.
