Several passages of scripture show God’s commitment to meeting our temporal needs. As a matter of fact, we are told He takes care of the birds of the air and lilies in the valley. He has enough in store to take care of the young lions that cry. However, the desire to meet these needs must never become the basis of seeking God. In John 6, Jesus rebuked those who were seeking Him because they had partaken of the miracle loaves on previous occasion. Apparently, they were looking for another miracle meal. Jesus taught them to seek after the food that can uphold the soul.
“We should strive to grow in grace; this is the secret of living in God.”
The writer of Hebrews made it plain that food, regardless of how much we eat, cannot lead to the establishment of the inner man. Only grace can do that. By extension, no achievement or material acquisition can produce life after God. Unbelievers are yet to realise this fact. They spend their lives chasing shadows. It is even worse for those who profess faith in Christ to make feeding, clothing, and other material concerns the sole preoccupation. This will turn them into Gentiles. We should strive to grow in grace; this is the secret of living in God. When we embrace this type of life, it will then be God’s duty to bestow on us what we can handle at each phase.
