We were at table at the just concluded Apostolic Summit 2025 held at the Citadel Global Community Church, Lagos, Nigeria when Dr. Bakare recalled a cheque I once issued in his favour. He tucked it somewhere and forgot to present it. He recalled several other instances where people gave him cheques which he forgot to cash. The good part is that forgetting to present the cheques did not invalidate them. The cheque that I gave was eventually cashed when he remembered.
The gifts and callings are complementary. The gifts are the tools for carrying out our calling. An understanding of your gift may as well be a pointer to the type of calling or assignment that has been given to you.
Our text focuses on God’s gifts. Many believers seem to have tucked their gifts away while admiring others. Let us take a few lessons. Firstly, God’s generosity is towards everybody. They may vary in type and magnitude, but all of us have been given gifts by God. In addition to the gifts are callings. By this, we mean specific assignments or purposes that God has earmarked for each person. The gifts and callings are complementary. The gifts are the tools for carrying out our calling. An understanding of your gift may as well be a pointer to the type of calling or assignment that has been given to you. The worrisome issue is that, many people forget to probe or appropriate what they have been given. Those who are yet to appropriate their gifts are not in any way at a disadvantage. There is no need to be jealous of those who are already making the most of their callings and gifts. What we need to do is to get back to God and ask for where we belong. Ask for the gift that has been given. Then launch out in faith to make the most of it.
