On arrival at Numan afternoon of Thursday November 23, 2023, I made a brief stopover at the office of the Chairman of Numan Local Government. I prayed with him and some of his aides before heading to the palace of the king of Numan and head of Bachaman Traditional Council. We were first seated in an outer parlour. We must have taken about 30 minutes or more at that place. Later, we were led to the sitting room where he receives visitors. Another 30 minutes or more must have passed as we waited for him to emerge from his chamber. While there, a palace official informed everybody on the entourage to mute their phone all through our stay. It would be unacceptable for the phone to ring in the king’s presence. After a long while, the king made his appearance. He was courteous enough to apologize for coming late. He had been on zoom meeting which was not to be interrupted.
The second thing was the Palace Protocol. You cannot behave anyhow in the presence of the king. The same thing with God who is the King of kings. Christianity does not give us the leeway to turn liberty to license for carelessness.
Two things made impression on me. Firstly, it occurred to me that subjects cannot bamboozle the king to fix into their schedule; rather they are the ones to fit into his schedule. I think of this in terms of our dealing with God, particularly for those who think they can hasten God to conform to their timings. God is too big to be turned into a pawn in the hand of any man. We must learn to wait for His timing. The second thing was the Palace Protocol. You cannot behave anyhow in the presence of the king. The same thing with God who is the King of kings.
