I remember shuttling between two cities within three days. When I got to the second city, I lodged at the hotel owned by the parent of one of our network members. The following morning, the attendant who was to serve me complimentary breakfast asked for my room number. I responded confidently, calling out the room number. The young man look puzzled. “We don’t have a room like that”, he said. Then I realised that I had wrongly mentioned the number of the room I had occupied in the previous location. Even though I had changed location, the old address still stuck with me.
Renewing of the mind is our pass out of the depravity characterizing this world into the beauty and victory that is in the kingdom. Without stressing this, the renewal must be by the word of God.
This experience is descriptive of what many Christians go through, particularly those who are young in the faith. When we gave our lives to Christ and became born again, our address changed. At the point of salvation we are made to sit together with Christ Jesus in the heavenlies! That place is described as far above principalities and powers, beyond the reach of wicked rulers of this world, but our mind still plays pranks on us. Too often we keep citing old ways of doing things in God’s kingdom. We think and act in manners not in consonance with the standards of the kingdom. Renewing of the mind is our pass out of the depravity characterizing this world into the beauty and victory that is in the kingdom. Without stressing this, the renewal must be by the word of God.
