The last couple of meditations revealed individuals who blamed their lot on God. Today, we shall try to provide an explanation for why people indulge in blaming God for what He has no business with or what He is already turning around for their benefits. Incomplete or unbalanced theology is the problem with many. The disciples suffered from this. When they saw a man that was born blind they asked Jesus if that was the consequence of the man’s sins or that of his parents. As far as they could tell bad things only happen to sinners. Jesus would later set the record straight by telling them that both the man and his parents were guiltless.
“It is an error of generalization to think that bad things happen to people solely because of the wrong they have committed. In a sense bad things will follow sinful life. But it is not in all cases. “
It is an error of generalization to think that bad things happen to people solely because of the wrong they have committed. In a sense bad things will follow sinful life. But it is not in all cases. If this were a complete theology we would have to ask what wrong Jesus committed to deserve such brutal treatment. From His testimony and the witness of Pilate He did nothing worthy of death; but He died anyway. We need to come to terms that we live in a fallen world; and bad things are a part of the order here. That is why the Bible says we are looking for new heavens and a new earth where righteousness is the rule. In the meantime we take grace to live pure and holy to minimize incidences of bad things. Moreover, we should bolster our confidence in the fact that whatever God permits He can redeem for His glory and our blessing.
