When something beats our imagination, we sometimes describe it as being too good to be true. We can see this in Peter. Peter’s deliverance happened when he was close to death. Can you relate to interventions like this? Do you know of any miraculous blessing that left you astonished? That was the kind of thing Peter experienced. I bet you Peter would have probably pinched himself to be sure that it was real. Initially, he only played along; later it became clear to him that God had miraculously delivered him. “Now I know of a surety…that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me”, he said.
As long as our expectations are in line with the will of God, He will not deny us.
The other part of the Apostle’s testimony is that God saved him not only from the hand of Herod but also from the expectation of the Jews. There were two expectations concerning Peter. The Jews were expecting to read his obituary; on the contrary, they heard the news of his escape. God indeed has a way of disappointing the counsel of the ungodly. The Church had another expectation; to see Peter released and resume his apostolic duties. That expectation was granted. The Bible says the expectation of the righteous shall not be cut off. As long as our expectations are in line with the will of God, He will not deny us.
