In our recent meditations, we looked at some means of grace – the word of God, prayer, and the communion table. Today, we shall consider fellowship as a means of grace. The Covid-19 pandemic dealt a major blow to the corporate fellowship of God’s children globally. The restriction on movement made coming together difficult. Acts 2:46 reiterated the importance of fellowship – “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart”.
Though Covid-19 has cleared considerably, some believers have not returned to corporate worship, preferring online services. While it is possible to engage some means of grace privately from our homes, better results are guaranteed when we do them with other believers. You can listen to the word of God alone, but that may not be as powerful as with other believers. Similarly, you can pray on your own; but when the Church lifts her voice as recorded in Acts 4, the foundations of hell are shaken. For this reason, the Bible enjoins us not to forsake fellowshipping with other believers (Hebrews 10:25). Acts 2:46 reports that the brethren had gladness of heart. A glad heart is a heart filled with grace, and you can get this by fellowshipping with the brethren.
