Our liberty must not be compromised on the altar of human tradition. Finally, any tradition that has become an inhibitor to progress must be challenged.
The second is faith. Your obedience expresses your faith in God. It is expression of confidence in God’s loving-kindness, and that He will not ask you to do anything that will be injurious to you.
Even Eli who was older and more exposed did not discern at once that it was God calling Samuel. Becoming perceptive to spiritual things takes time; but it is a development that will be worth the wait.
The beginning of the process is to determine what God has set apart for you; then you go ahead to set yourself apart for same. Setting yourself apart means you eliminate all tasks that constitute distraction from the God-given assignment. What you apply yourself to is what you excel in over time.
The lesson is this: whatever is given to you as a task in God’s household, handle it by the Spirit. A sweeper who is doing his job by the Spirit can influence a lot more for God than a preacher who is in the flesh.
The disciples established their priority and knew it would be unwelcoming to leave their core duties of prayer and the ministry of the word for food sharing. Problems can be diversionary; so be wise and keep focus on the main thing.
It is important to say that it is maturing individual members of the Church that leads to overall maturity of that Church. A church is no more mature than the aggregate maturity displayed by its members.
As a matter of fact, someone said that if you see a perfect Church, don’t join them. Being perfect means nothing is needed to be removed or added. Your inclusion will immediately corrupt a perfect church. However, such churches don’t exist.
If He gave us the more important things, the lesser ones are guaranteed. What God requires of us is to take life one step at a time and focus on seeking the kingdom of God. When we get our focus right, God will do the needful in terms of our sustenance and welfare.
