Our text is a good illustration of how important obedience is in spiritual battles. Joshua’s first campaign was a huge success.

What happened here was that the jealous nature of God kicked in. God has zero tolerance for rivalry.

Theology is defined as “the study of God and of God’s relation to the world.” Most times, our problems can be traced to incomplete or unbalanced theology.

The awesomeness of God is taught in several portions of the Bible. While reprimanding Belshazzar for disrespecting holy vessels, Daniel drew a parallel between the God of Israel and other gods.

He left where the presence of God could manifestly function to his advantage. Departing from the revealed will of God is like departing from His presence.

If there is any clear lesson to learn from our text, it would be that significance comes from God.

Until the word is spoken, the Spirit has nothing to work with. The Spirit hovers over the spoken word and causes the effect; it may be of conviction or motivation to duty.

He said that sacrifice is a universal phenomenon. I have watched people in all fields of endeavour and found that those who made appreciable progress have made a great deal of sacrifice.

Our love for God should grow to a level where we do not count our lives dear to us, and have become willing to lay everything down for His glory.

The world generally holds men of God to a higher standard. That is understandable. They are brand ambassadors of God’s kingdom.
