Joseph had an upbeat approach to life. This had little to do with his coat of many colours. A cracked spirit and personality will benefit little even if he is attired in gold all through. The upbeat nature is better conveyed by our meditation today. He was concerned that two of his fellow inmates were looking wretched and sad. Really, if anyone must be sad, it should be Joseph. He was treacherously treated by his brothers. He was separated from the love of his father. His master’s wife lied against him and he ended up serving a jail term for living a holy life! The only reason Joseph could show concern that his fellow inmates were downcast was because he operated by another spirit. He rose above the forces of his environment. Talk of positive attitude, Joseph had it in large doses. He taught us that what eventually matters is not what is happening to us, but how we respond to them.
The operation of the Spirit of God in our lives will give us heavenly perspectives to issues. It will also fortify us against whatever the enemy may haul at us.
Behind the “another spirit” exhibited by Joseph was a deeper truth, one which Pharaoh was quick to observe in this verse: “And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” Genesis 41:38 NKJV. Behind the equanimity displayed by Joseph was the Spirit of God in him. It was the same Spirit of God that helped him decipher the king’s dream and provided the way out. The operation of the Spirit of God in our lives will give us heavenly perspectives to issues. It will also fortify us against whatever the enemy may haul at us.
